ASE is a two year program in which participating students have opportunities to experience science in ways that are usually not available in a traditional classroom setting. Students apply during the spring of their sophomore year to particpate during the junior and senior years. Applicants must be enrolled in physics and pre-calculus as juniors along with meeting other criteria found in the application. A link to the application can be found below.
During the junior year, students will have opportunities to learn more about Engineering, Forensics, Alternative Energy, Genetics, Microbiology and Nanotechnology through the Academy lab class, Scientific Research and Design. Students will also complete 50 science related service hours.
During the senior year, students will work with a team of students to complete a research and design project. Along with the project, students are required to take an AP science class and are strongly encouraged to take an AP math class as well. The students complete an additional 50 science related service hours during the senior year.
ASE is partners with the MIT Club of South Texas.
