The SWLC Lacrosse Club was established at Stratford High School and Westchester Academy in 2001 by interested students and parents in the area. The club has grown tremendously over the past five years, and we had over 100 middle school and high school boys involved with the team this past season and over 50 girls in the MS and HS program. We field a Varsity Team, a JV Team, and three middle school boys teams (8th, 7th, and 5-6th graders). The girls field a middle school, JV, and Varsity team. The growth of the club can be attributed to several factors. First and foremost, lacrosse is a great team sport. It is fun to play and exciting to watch as a spectator. Secondly, an enthusiasm for the sport both by the players and the parents. Thirdly, a dedicated coaching staff. The key to growth of lacrosse in our area is the availability of quality coaches. We have them. And lastly, the participation of the parents. Without parent involvement, it would be very difficult to manage this size of an organization.
The high school boys participate in the Texas High School Lacrosse League which is the governing body for lacrosse in Texas. The league is divided into 2 divisions. The more established programs primarily play in the first division. New teams and teams without consistent programs play in Division II. There are 42 Division II teams in Texas and 24 Division I teams. SWLC currently plays in South Division II, but our goal is to become a member of division I. Division II teams in the South District include Memorial, Fort Bend, Cy-Fair, Taylor, Cinco Ranch, St. Thomas, Clear Lake, Klein, Klein Oak, Westside and Bellaire.
