The goal of the Health Fitness Program at Stratford High School is to teach every child the knowledge and skills needed to become the caretaker of his or her own body and assume responsibility for personal health and well being. While learning important facts relative to good health is important, it is not the only goal of the curriculum. Learning to think critically and solve problems are extremely important personal skills. Health information can be quickly outdated but cognitive decision-making skills will always be important to maintaining personal health. Topics addressed in the curriculum include personal health, mental and emotional health, safety and first aid, nutrition, disease prevention. In this program students will not only learn how to become active in TEAM sports, but learn how to maintain a healthier lifestyles.
