 Shattered Dreams

Shattered Dreams

Since April, we have been laying the groundwork and devising logistics for this very involved simulation.  On Thursday morning, Fern Drive will be closed at 8:30 am to stage the accident.  At 9:15 am we will begin the simulation, which will be viewed live by all 11th and 12th grade students.  One of the final parts will be life flight landing - please share with friends and neighbors that this is only a simulation.  We will do a "grim reaper" exercise during the rest of the school day.  Statistics say that every 15 minutes a teenager is killed in an alcohol-related crash.  For the rest of the day, the grim reaper will come every 15 minutes for one of our students.  At the end of the day, all the students involved in the simulation and the grim reaper exercise will board a bus for Ben Taub Hospital and they will stay up all night visiting with medical personnel and observing trauma cases as they are brought in.  In the morning, the students will return and we will have a one hour assembly as various participants share with the audience what they observed and how they felt.  Some of our parents will speak as well.  Two weeks later, we will show a video of the entire event to all our studetns during Spartan Time.  We hope, that through this huge undertaking, our students will learn they need to think twice and make good choices, especially involving anything to do with alcohol.  We appreciate the large show of support we have received as we have planned this simulation.

It's All About Attitude,
