Given past trends regarding numbers, it is very likely that SHS will again be below the enrollment number to be classified as a 5A high school.  The potential difference this time around is that both Spring Woods and Northbrook could also be classified as 4A schools.  Last night, L.P. Jones, SBISD Athletic Director, Eliot Allen and myself met with parents to look at the numbers and past trends and discuss potential options and issues if we are classified as a 4A high school.  I was very pleased with the general outlook of those involved and, while change can be scary, there are possibilities that this move could be postive for our students.  In the coming weeks, I will be placing an FAQ document on our website to address common concerns, and of course community members are always welcome to call or e-mail me with any specific questions.  In another area - we have been very pleased with the community reception to our Shattered Dreams program for our students.  The amount of postive feedback has been overwhelming and it seems that this program has been a catalyst for some good talks over the dinner table regarding a challenging topic like drinking and driving.  We will be showing the final version of our simulation on Thursday of this week in Spartan Time.  All four grades will watch the video and we are hopeful it will carry over into our Homecoming festivities with our students making good choices.  I have received lots of requests from parents to purchase a copy of the DVD of our simulation.  We are happy to provide parents with this excellent tool for getting conversations moving regarding this topic.  Our plan is to have the DVD mass produced.  We will then charge a nominal fee to cover the cost of re-production and a small profit to cover any other expenses incurred.  After we have sold all the copies, if we have any left over profit, we will donate it to Mothers Against Drunk Driving.  As I mentioned earlier, it is Homecoming week at SHS and we look forward to a spirit filled week culminating in a great game versus Spring Woods and a wonderful dance on Saturday night.  We are also closely watching our volleyball team as they finish the season and head toward the playoffs.  As soon as playoff postioning is complete, we will get the word out regarding where we will play and whom our opponent will be.
